February 16, 2007

PRESENT:   Fred Haynes, Diane Parham, Tami Volz, Kristen Gunson, Karen Jones, Scott Glitz, Deborah Barnes, Mark Wreath, Marv Clemons, Laura McCoid, Len Eaton, Susanne Daggett, Mary Lynn Monroe and Thelma Clemons.

NOT PRESENT:    Jim Schoelkopf

MINUTES:    Marv Clemons moved that the minutes of the January Board meeting be approved as submitted; Tami Volz seconded; motion carried.

BY-LAWS:   Thelma Clemons reported that the By-Laws vote presented to the OACTE membership passed unanimously by those who responded.

REORGANIZATION:    Mary-Lynn Monroe reported on the recommendations of the reorganization sub-committee. The committee reviewed the history of OACTE and the by-laws of similar state organizations.  A list of recommendations was disseminated to the Board for consideration.

Marv Clemons moved that the reorganization sub-committee continue to accept changes and revisions to their recommendations and make the report available to the attendees of the 2007 conference. Kristin Gunson seconded the motion; motion carried.

Board members are requested to send all edits and changes via email to Mary-Lynn by March 2. The sub-committee will develop and print the recommendations for distribution at the Salishan 2007 conference.  It was recommended that a box, covered in colored paper, be made available at the conference registration table for submission of the reorganization forms.

PERKINS IV:  Mark Wreath reported that OACTE was recognized as a leader in statewide staff development and it was suggested that OACTE be used as a broker for information via the OACTE website. The focus areas of the meeting were:

CTE SUMMIT:  Susanne Daggett reported on the development of a CTE Teacher Preparation Summit scheduled for May 8 at Corbin College.  Susanne is working with Susan Boyanovsky from CCWD on organization.  It is intended to be a meeting of key stakeholders including representatives from OSU, Community Colleges, TSPC, Regional Coordinators, OACTE, ODE etc. to address the gaps in Oregon CTE teacher training. The group will be presented with data to describe the status quo in the state for CTE teacher preparation and professional development, and then work towards next steps in how to approach both improvements for pre-service training as well as inservice opportunities in support of CTE teachers entering the field from industry.

CONFERENCE:  Diane Parham led the Board through the conference schedule changes.

Thelma provided the Board with a list of session planner forms that have not been received.  They need to be emailed or faxed to Thelma no later than the first week in March to be included in the program.

Board members were asked to check with their session presenters to determine if they will need an internet hook-up and if so report that need to Thelma.

Thelma is in contact with the Siletz Tribal Cultural Director in an attempt to make arrangements for banquet entertainment.

Kristin Gunson will bring conference registration forms to the April Regional Coordinator’s meeting and will request door prize items for the conference.

Diane will contact Jan Bray and invite her to meet with the Board on Wednesday evening prior to the conferene.
