LEGISLATIVE            The final version of the SB 364 Taskforce is expected to be released

REPORT:                     the ODE by the end of November.  Several lawmakers in Oregon have already begun to discuss the importance of CTE in Oregon and the need to further study the importance of this educational model.  Washington and California lawmakers in their last legislative sessions allocated millions of additional dollars to help fund existing programs and build new centers in their states.  Senator Rick Metzger has recently sent out a press release indicating his support for additional funding for “voc Ed” classes in Oregon. There is a concern that Oregon lawmakers need to understand what CTE is in today’s society so that there is less chat about voc ed and more on professional/career education.

ACTE:                         Deborah Barnes, Kristin Gunson, Mark Wreath and Diane Parham met with ACTE Executive Director Jan Bray in October following the NCLA conference in Vancouver, Washington. Those who attended reported that they talked about ways to strengthen our connections with ACTE and were encouraged by hearing about the support that we can receive on our issues from Oregon ACTE.

Jan Bray offered to attend the April 2007 OACTE conference in Salishan to talk about the cause and effect of CTE. The Board requested Diane Parham to contact Ms. Bray to accept her offer and ask her to address the conference attendees at the conference business meeting Friday, morning.

Kristin Gunson volunteered to invite Region V representative Erie Johnson to the November Board meeting.

WEBSITE:                   OACTE webmaster Len Eaton has added a counter to the OACTE.org website to determine the amount of inquires to the site.  Len requested additional information on award winners from the 2006 conference and will add award and board nomination forms to the website.

The Board suggested the addition of a legislative award for 2007.  Mark Wreath and Deborah Barnes volunteered to draft the wording for the award and present it to the Board for approval.

Len asked Board members to send him suggestions for links that they feel appropriate additions to the OACTE website.  Send them to lene@clackamas.edu.

Len reported the results of his search for possible on-line registration services.  Thelma surveyed ACTE affiliate states to see how they handle their conference registration and if they use an on-line registration service and sent the results to Len.

The Board decided to table any further investigation into an online registration service but instead look at ways to incorporate an access database to help with the registration process. Many of the services that online registration companies provide appear to have little use for the size of our organization and did not appear to be a good use of our funds.  Deborah Barnes moved that the Board use PayPal to allow OACTE to accept VISA and other credit cards.  Scott Glitz seconded; motion carried.

Len will make the arrangements and will search options to add an online site for evaluations.

OACTE BOARD:        Diane Parham suggested looking at current OACTE Board members for a 4-year commitment and committee members for a 2-year commitment.  Diane also recommended the candidate for OACTE Vice President should be selected from current Board members who have experience and knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of the Board.

It was suggested that Board members acquire committee participants from their regions and that an electronic newsletter committee be formed.

Fred Haynes moved that volunteers be accepted for a sub-committee to develop a proposed action plan and timeline for the Board and open the plan to the membership in April. Deborah Barnes seconded; motion carried.   Fred Haynes, Mary Lynn Monroe, Scott Giltz, Laura McCoid and Deborah Barnes volunteered to participate as the sub-committee.
