Karen Jones is the PAVTEC Partnerships Coordinator and coordinates the PCC Dual Credit articulation program between Portland Community College and its area high schools. Karen has been with the PAVTEC Education Consortium for the past 5 ½ years. During this time she has been a member of the statewide Regional Coordinator Network and the Dual Credit/Tech Prep Coordinators. Her focus of work is wrapped around the secondary and postsecondary connections for both professional technical programs and lower division collegiate. Karen Jones also coordinates numerous High School and PCC PTE Connections Meetings bringing faculty from secondary and post-secondary programs together to share best practices, learn about labor market trends and statistics, and connect with business and industry. She’s assisted in the program approval and quality assurance renewal process for several high school professional technical programs. Most recently, Karen coordinated the PAVTEC Regional Career Pathways project which was to work with representatives from the high schools and the college to gather resources and provide input into the development of the PAVTEC Career Pathways website, www.pcc.edu/pavtec/pathways .

Mark began working with the Lane ESD School Improvement team in the area of Career and Technical Education in 2001. Mark’s high energy and drive to create new programs pushed him to create a series of regional student competitions pairing students with industry professionals, develop monthly business tours for students in high growth/high demand industries, and lead the coordination of the Lane County Youth Career Fair bringing 2,300 students from 16 school districts, 75 exhibitors, and 100 volunteer mock interviewers together for one day of career exploration. Mark also worked with stakeholders in his area to create a regional hub for youth career information and opportunities with the creation of a web site (lanecareerfocus.org).
Mark is an active member in many professional organizations including the NTPN, ACTE, Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, board member Youth Visions, design team member RTEC (Regional Technical Education Consortium), and part of the newly formed Oregon Department of Education’s PTE Marketing and Communications Sub Committee
Mark is also a certified trainer for the Center of Dependable Strengths and a Q Trainer for the Oregon Tourism Commission.

For the past 11 years Steve Schilling has taught CAD / CAM / CNC manufacturing at Newbridge High School located within the Rogue Valley Youth Correctional Facility. There they design and manufacture custom signs, soap and candy molds, free to non-profit organizations and for profit to all others. Prior to teaching Steve spent 20 years working in the building trades. His background includes, welding and fabrication, rough and finish carpentry, HVAC installation, electrical and landscape and irrigation. For the past two years Steve has been involved with the Lane County Math in CTE project, currently being adopted by the state of Oregon. He is a community business leader, serving on the Three Rivers Schools Foundation, a non-profit organization to help raise additional funds for students, programs and services in the Three Rivers School District.

Diane is the K-12 Career Learning Coordinator and Grant Coordinator for the Colton School District . She also is actively involved in school reform issues with the district such as implementation of support structures around the new diploma requirements, Certificate of Advanced Mastery programs, and Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling program implementation.
Diane is a member of a variety of school district committees (Instructional Improvement, Technology, and High School Site Council), she also serves as the Clackamas County High Schools representative on the Tri-County STC Consortium, chair of the Clackamas County STC Coordinators group, and most recently one of the Colton High team members to the International Center for Leadership in Education's Successful Practices Network. Working in partnership with the national Council of Chief State School Officers and with assistance from foundations and national education organizations, the ICLE Successful Practices Network is conducting an ongoing initiative designed to bring effective practices to scale by gathering and sharing information on schools that have been most successful at providing all students with a rigorous and relevant education.

During
her 30 years in public education, Kristin has served as a teacher,
Executive Director of a youth leadership organization, provided
Technical Assistance for Career and Technical Education Program
Quality for teachers. She is currently the Regional Coordinator
in Career and Technical Education and Equity programs. She services
16 school districts. Kristin Gunson is charged with managing
and implementing Perkins Title I and Title II, eight Youth Transition
Programs and providing technical support to schools on Certificate
of Advanced Mastery in Lane County . She served on the state
plan taskforce for professional technical program design and
is active in many state professional organizations. In 2001
she completed the Career Development Facilitator Training. Locally,
she is a curriculum specialist for schools in career and technical
Education at Lane Education Service District in Eugene . Her
interests include how to provide alternative learning opportunities
to schools and career and technical skills and equity for young
women and special needs students.

Dale is the Regional Coordinator of Prof/Tech Education for Linn and Benton Counties. During his 23 years in education he has taught home economics, social studies, math, keyboarding, English, physics. His work experience includes K-12, OSU and the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Dale completed his 23 years in Alaska outside of the classroom directing Career and Technical Education for two years and as the Director for Distance Learning and Instructional Technology. Dale was awarded the International Technology Education Association’s Teacher Excellence Award, the Program Excellence Award and the Promising Practice Award for the development and implementation of the first Occupational Versatility program in the State of Alaska. Dale developed the outline for the department of Distance Education for the Kenai Peninsula school district and was the manager of the Workforce Development Center. Dale is a member of OACTE, ACTE, NCLA.

Scott Giltz is dean of the Technical Career Education Division at Clackamas Community College and chair of the Clackamas Technical Education Consortium (C-TEC). In working through local and statewide initiatives, C-TEC promotes career and technical education across secondary and post-secondary institutions, bringing Carl Perkins dollars and other resources to the programs needing them the most. With a background in manufacturing, Scott has long been an advocate for CTE and has worked for Clackamas in faculty and department chair roles since 1991. No stranger to innovation and outreach, Scott served at the College’s Oregon Advanced Technology Center in Wilsonville and was involved with designing and providing training and consulting services for high tech manufacturing firms. Prior to becoming involved in education, Scott worked in private industry for over twenty years in secondary metals and aerospace manufacturing companies.

Brigid Flannery is a Senior Research Associate/Assistant Professor at the University of Oregon. She has been at the University of Oregon since 1984 teaching and directing a number of state and federal grants in research, model development and personnel preparation. These efforts focus on preparing students, who are at risk or disabilities, for the transition from K-12 and focus on increasing access for this population to postsecondary education. Her grant efforts are often collaborative with Vocational Rehabilitation, community colleges, school districts and Centers for Independent Living. She is active in national and state organizations and serves on the Oregon State Special Education Advisory Committee (SACSE), the Oregon Higher Education Council as well as ODE taskforces (i.e., Perkins Advisory Committee, Credit for Proficiency Task Force, Modified Diploma Workgroup).

John Young is the School to Career Coordinator at Canby High School and is completing his 18th year in education with the last 7 years at Canby High School. During this time he has developed the present School to Work (S2W) program and activities at Canby. John serves on the CHS Leadership Team and has chaired many committees in the development of CHS’s student portfolio and integrated activities in order to meet the 2007 State diploma requirements.
John oversees CHS’s WIA program coordinator and was instrumental in the development of the OYCC Canby Youth Corps program. He serves on the planning committee for the annual Clackamas County Job & Career Fair, a unique partnership involving local business revitalization efforts, the Oregon Employment Department, and area high schools.
Prior to moving to Canby, John developed Sweet Home High School’s S2W program over an 11 year period. During that time John developed the Sweet Home Business Education Partnership, and the annual business sponsored junior class “Ethical Decision Making in the Workplace & Society” workshop and many other S2W activities.
John is a long-time Kiwanian. He lives in Oregon City with his wife Janie and their two daschunds. They are the proud parents of their daughter who is an AMR paramedic in Grants Pass, Oregon.
