OACTE -- What’s in a name?
In Oregon, the terms professional technical education (PTE) and career and technical education (CTE) are used interchangeably. The term career and technical education reflects the recent name change in both the state and national organizations.

In April 2001, members of the Oregon Council of Career and Vocational Administrators (OCCVA) voted to change the name of the organization to the Oregon Association for Career and Technical Education (OACTE). The name change identifies the organization more closely with the national organization the American Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). State organizations across the country are aligning their names with the national association to promote more active membership of administrators, teachers, counselors, and business professionals through a more common identity.
