September 14, 2007
PRESENT: Diane Parham, Fred Haynes, Dale Moon, Marv Clemons, Laura McCoid, Karen Jones, John Young, Susanne Daggett, Kristin Gunson, Mark Wreath, Mary-Lynne Monroe, Thelma Clemons.
ABSENT: Scott Giltz, Len Eaton, Tami
Volz, and Jim Schoelkopf
FINANCE: Thelma Clemons submitted the
year-end financial report for 2007. John Young suggested adding a technology
budget line for website improvements.
Susanne Daggett will speak to Jim Schoelkopf about
adding WiFi costs to the ODE sub-grant.
Marv
Clemons moved that the report be accepted as submitted; Fred Haynes seconded;
motion carried.
ODE REPORT: Susanne Daggett provided an update on
the Perkins IV Professional Development Task Force meetings, which was well
represented by four OACTE Board members.
·
Teacher licensure was a major topic of discussion for the task force.
·
OACTE was recognized as a vehicle through which to provide statewide
leadership and as a key partner in the dissemination of information and providing
professional development and training.
·
All recommendations by the task force groups will be pulled together
and submitted to the State Advisory Group for recommendation for legislation.
·
The Perkins 5-year plan should be solidified by next spring in time for
a session for the 2008 conference.
HANDBOOK: Laura McCoid shared the draft of the
information she has compiled for new OACTE Board members. The following
additions were suggested:
·
A page be included to show how OACTE fits into the regional and
national organizational picture.
·
Thank you gift protocol for past Board officers
·
Brief history of the organization.
Thelma will give Laura contact information for Dan Dunham who was the
first President for OACTE, which was originally named OCCVA, Oregon Council for
Career and Vocational Administrators.
SUB-COMMITTEES: Forms were distributed at the 2007 OACTE Conference asking for volunteers for sub-committees representing member services, conference and program development, legislation and advocacy and information technology. Mary-Lynne Monroe reported that Mark Wreath and Karen have volunteered to chair the member services sub-committee; Tami Volz for conference and program development; Fred Haynes for legislation and Len Eaton and Laura McCoid for the information technology subcommittees. Mary-Lynne will supply additional volunteers name that she did not have on-hand but will contact each chairperson with the additional names.
It was suggested that our website be built to serve as main source of CTE information and build a blog for questions and answers. Mark will contact Len to discuss options and changes.
Diane Parham will contact persons who have
volunteered to assist OACTE in all sub-committee areas.
CONFERENCE:
2009 Site: The Board discussed site
options for the 2009 conference. Salishan was preferable to give attendees the
change of coast and mountain travel but the lack of space at Salishan is a big
issue. Mark moved that OACTE contract with Salishan for the 2009 conference
with the option of using the indoor tennis facilities for the Thursday morning
general session and luncheon which would leave additional space for those
functions and leave the long house available for breakout sessions. Kristin
seconded; motion carried with one opposed vote and one abstaining.
2008 Conference:
Theme: “Trails to a New World”, April 16-18,
2008, Sunriver Resort.
Pre-Conference: The Board supported the plan of a full
day Perkins workshop. It was suggested
to offer a split Credit by Proficiency session, one workshop for Perkins
administrators and another for practitioners.
Credit by Proficiency is part of the new diploma requirements, which are
not fully developed at this time but may be ready by spring. Susanne Daggett will talk to Theresa Levy and
Colleen Mileham for their input.
Keynote Speakers: Fred Haynes suggested Neil Howe, a partner and co-founder of LifeCourse Associates in Virginia. Howe’s presentation at LBCC on Generational Differences was negotiated down from his rate of $10,000-$20,000 to $8,000 plus expenses.
Tami Volz emailed a suggestion
for a presentation about using “some amazing impromptu
presenters” she knows of who use impromptu for teaching life lessons and/or
professional lessons.
It was also suggested that a
futurist speaker would be well received but no particular name was suggested.
